The San Diego Museum of Man (SDMoM) is accepting applications for a full-time Registrar. At SDMoM, the Registrar is a key member of the collections team. This position is responsible for all aspects of registration for the objects within the Museum of Man’s permanent collection, as well as for managing incoming and outgoing loans and coordinating the Museum’s Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) compliance program.

The Museum of Man is a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. Our ideal candidate has an energy and passion for collections that carries them through their day-to-day responsibilities. The successful applicant is a creative thinker and problem solver prepared to take on new challenges and ready for an adventure. A sense of humor, willingness to try new things, and an innovative approach to collections management are vital to the success of this position.

SDMoM is currently working through our first comprehensive inventory of the collection in over forty years. The Registrar should be prepared to take a leading role in this initiative, helping to ensure the progress of the project as well as resolving the diverse registration inconsistencies that are present after more than 100 years of collecting history.

In addition, the Museum of Man is also undertaking a project to migrate from the PastPerfect collections management database into a new CollectionSpace database. The Registrar will be responsible for assisting with this transition, working with our vendors and contracts as we migrate our data, and managing the testing and maintenance of the new database once setup and implementation are complete.
