Private foundation with fine and decorative arts collection is seeking to hire a full time ASSISTANT REGISTRAR.
The Assistant Registrar provides support to the Director of Registration and Collections Management and the Registration/Collections Management team in completing all work associated with the records, documentation, loan and care of a growing, multi-faceted fine and decorative art collection.
Responsibilities: Assists Registration/Collections management team with the following:


Processing new acquisition following Registrars Committee of the American Alliance of Museums, the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists, and department established registration protocols and procedures, which includes cataloguing, measuring, number painting, printing and attaching barcodes
Examination of artwork and production of condition reports and receipts
Object rehousing and inventory as needed
General object handling, movement and packing
Object movement, setup and supervision for visiting researchers and photo shoots
Research and report copy editing projects as required
Condition surveys of various collection categories
Barcoding assignment project for original object storage boxes
Object and historic house cleaning following established conservation methods
Other light conservation technician work as required
Receive/release object shipments
Assist with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) trap inspections on a quarterly schedule and record trap contents data in the IPM database
Scanning of important documents in accession files for contingency purposes
Data entry and cleanup projects as assigned
Courier works of art as needed
Other duties as required



RequirementsRequirements:


Decorative or fine arts background
Three years of experience in the museum registration field
Knowledge of standard museum registration and collections management policies and procedures
Ability to multi-task, organize work, and meet deadlines with careful attention to detail in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Knowledge of artistic methods and materials used in the manufacture of wide variety of fine and decorative arts
Condition reporting, object handling, and object numbering experience
Literacy in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Access and Excel, Adobe Photoshop, and experience with collections management database in general
Ability to travel for 2-3 days at a time for offsite projects

Must be able to handle light/moderate lifting, ascend and descend ladders
Ability to work at heights over twenty feet and operate hand tools
Must be able to operate an order picker (training/certification will be provided)
Ability to pass a background check
Valid driver’s license required
