Caroline Smith has been involved in product development, testing, quality control, converting, manufacturing and distribution of materials to house, protect and preserve collections while in storage, shipping and on display for nearly 15 years.
She has worked closely with Conservators, Collections Managers, Preparators, and Registrars, as well as Professional Packer/Shippers, Artists, Framers, Collectors, Educators and many others to learn and understand the needs of their individual projects and to develop new solutions with them, as needed.
Her work has included collaborating with manufacturers such as Dupont (TyvekŪ), Dow / Sealed Air (EthafoamŪ), Coveris (DartekŪ) to ensure the properties of the materials provided to the Collections Care community are meeting and often exceeding the specifications required by important organizations such as the Library of Congress and Image Permanence Institute.
She has provided further definition on materials and their applications through presentations at the Smithsonian, Metropolitan Museum of Art, at industry conferences and she is very happy to be member of PACCIN and the Publications Committee! Providing support in caring for our shared cultural heritage has been a genuine pleasure for her year after year and she believes PACCIN is an outstanding resource for further understanding key topics, concerns and perspectives of those serving the Art World.
