Definition:

Under the general direction of the Curator, Cultural History in the Department of State, State Museum, determines, plans, executes, and makes decisions for the maintenance and preservation of all objects in the Bureau of Cultural History; processes loans, supervises the recording and management of data on collections and materials entering or leaving the museum; oversees the rights and reproductions for use of all Cultural History collections for research and publication; responds to research inquiries; manages care and exhibition of the State House flag collection; participates in the work of the collections committee and other internal collections groups; participates in the planning and evaluation of exhibits and programs; serves as an active participant in the NJSM efforts towards AAM re-accreditation and advancement of the Museum's Strategic Plan.



REQUIREMENTS



EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in American Studies, Art History or Museum Studies.



EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience involving the handling of fine and/or decorative arts objects in a museum.



LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in NJ only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee's mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.


RESIDENCY LAW: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act," which became effective September 1, 2011, all persons newly hired by the Executive Branch on or after that date shall have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
