Job Description:
The David Winton Bell Gallery is seeking an experienced Preparator. Responsibilities include installation of exhibitions, safe handling and keeping of permanent collection and loaned artworks, and other duties as assigned.Â
Work with curators and chief preparator to install exhibitions, including reconfiguring exhibition spaces (construction of temporary walls and display cases; drywall and joint compounding; painting of walls, floor, and cases; installation of audio, video, and computer equipment); unpacking/packing, handling, and installation of artwork; lighting of exhibition; installation of labels and signage.
Provide matting and framing of artwork. Organize and maintain storage areas. Maintain system for inventory control.
Requires good carpentry skills and work experience or professional training in art handling and exhibition installation. Must have good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with artists, curators, donors, and contributors.Â
Due to the small staff size, it is imperative that the incumbent be qualified and open to taking on additional responsibilities and tasks that fall outside of his/her specific job description.
Position is 67% time (25 hours per week). Hours are irregular: incumbent will works full-time during installation periods and part-time between installs. Background check -- criminal.
