ASSOCIATE REGISTRAR
MODERN ART MUSEUM OF FORT WORTH
Registrar Department
SCOPE: The Associate Registrar reports to the Head of Exhibition and Collection Management and works closely with personnel from various departments throughout the museum. The Associate Registrar performs functions of registration, documentation, and collection management for the permanent collection, incoming/outgoing loans, acquisition considerations, and exhibition objects.
PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Coordinate and organize aspects of in-house and touring exhibitions, including budgeting, packing/crating, shipping, insurance, installation, condition reports, photography, couriers, and staff travel
  • Coordinate and organize aspects of loans and acquisition considerations, including packing/crating, shipping, insurance, installation, loan agreements, and conservation
  • Oversee handling and movement of artwork within the building and at the offsite warehouse
  • Oversee packing and installation and do condition reports of works from the permanent collection
  • Maintain and distribute “Works on View” checklists
  • Coordinate conservation for permanent collection objects
  • Perform weekly gallery checks of permanent collection and assigned exhibitions
  • Enter data into TMS of permanent collection, acquisition considerations, loans, and exhibition objects
  • Coordinate rights and reproductions requests, including sending images, scheduling new photography, assessing fee schedule, and submitting budget needs
  • Travel as courier for loans and exhibitions
  • Make object files for new acquisitions
  • Assist with archives maintenance
  • Respond to general questions about the permanent collection
  • Conduct art vault tours
  • Monitor volunteers and interns



RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of museum standards, art handling, and conservation/collections management requirements
  • Knowledge of digital collection management systems (TMS experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of digital asset management systems (NetX experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of mobile technology devices (iPad preferred)
  • Ability to visually inspect artwork
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Accurate data entry/keyboard skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to travel both nationally and internationally

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies or Art History required
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in museum registration or collections management required
