The Mississippi Department of Archives and History seeks a Historic Resources Specialist I to serve as archaeological collections manager in the Museum Division. This position involves work that is highly professional in nature. Its main responsibility involves archaeological collections management, including, but not limited to: processing and cataloging the state’s archaeological artifacts, general object analysis, data entry into Re:discovery Proficio, working with onsite researchers, and fulfilling research requests. Incumbent will also assist in organizing the collection after it is moved to a new facility. Incumbent must be detail-oriented and work well with others. Incumbent works under the general supervision of the assistant director of collections.
*Education and experience must meet one of the following criteria:* • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in archaeology, anthropology, history or a related field (archaeology or anthropology preferred) AND one (1) year of related experience. • Preferred qualifications: Experience in archaeological field school, experience in archaeological field methods, Southeastern Archaeology, and/or Mississippi River Valley Archaeology preferred but not required.
