THE ROLE
The essential functions of this position are to work in the crate shop as a customer/detailed oriented Crate Shop Technician and be a part of the production team that specializes in the production of crates for fine arts.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

  • Operates power tools, pneumatic staplers, nailers, table and radial saws, and band saws to manufacture individually designed crates for the shipping of art;
  • Constructs crates according to design specifications;
  • Operates a sprayer for water-based materials including adhesive, latex paint, and lacquer;
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.


Education: A minimum of three (3) years of college level studio arts training in sculpture or 2-4 years of related experience in crating techniques and archival packing skills or related discipline preferred.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience (strongly preferred):
The ideal candidate will possess the following as minimum qualifications:

  • Excellent attention to detail, an understanding of archival materials, museum specifications for the crating and packing of objects, as well as knowledge of how to economically pack artwork
  • Three-dimensional packing experience is desired;
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, proportions, percentages, areas, circumferences, and volumes.
  • Knowledge of general shop safety and power tools (i.e. table saw, radial arm saw, staplers etc.) and their recommended safety requirements.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, bend, lift, and use hands. Movement may occur in warehouses and offices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision and ability to adjust focus.
Employee must be able to lift 75lbs unassisted and must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 300lbs with assistance of mechanical equipment. Noise level is usually moderate.
