The Exhibitions Coordinator is under the museum’s Curatorial Department and functions as a key member of the team. Reporting to the Chief Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, the Exhibitions Coordinator will manage, organize, install/deinstall and maintain exhibitions of varying scope in support of the museum’s mission within HMH’s changing exhibition spaces and the Samuel Bak Learning Center permanent gallery. This position works closely with other organizations, vendors, artists, volunteers, docents, the general public and other museum departments. Holocaust Museum Houston is an accredited museum by the American Alliance of Museums in 2012.


RequirementsMajor Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan/organize incoming exhibition loans
  • Installation/deinstallation/preparation of ongoing changing exhibitions areas and Samuel Bak Learning Center permanent gallery, including handling works of art in all media
  • Work directly with outside organizations on potential incoming exhibitions.
  • Arrange shipping for incoming and outgoing exhibitions
  • Maintenance of all exhibitions spaces, shipping/receiving and exhibit prep areas.
  • Oversee exhibition graphics, signage and labels, and supervision of contractors.
  • Oversee and participate in wall construction, painting, lighting and creation of display mounts
  • Assist with creating exhibition layouts and design.


  • Assist with the writing and editing of exhibition text and labels.
  • Assist with docent training for upcoming exhibitions in coordination with the Education Dept.
  • Oversee the curation of the Samuel Bak Learning Center collection and gallery.
  • Serve on Changing Exhibitions Committee: scheduling, presentation of exhibition proposals and contacting committee members.
  • Respond to exhibition related emails and phone calls.
  • Manage the Changing Exhibitions (incoming) calendar and schedule.
  • Manage the Traveling Exhibits (outgoing) calendar and schedule.
  • Maintain and update exhibition records in the Past Perfect database.
  • Other duties as required.

Required skills:

  • Experience in project management and organization.
  • Skilled in handling varied mediums of art and artifacts.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite products and database management a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and problem solve with ease.
  • Creative, responsible, personable and self-motivated.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Education required, minimum Bachelor’s degree.
  • One - two years of professional museum experience.
  • Experience with museum standards and practices, exhibitions related responsibilities and exhibition preparation preferred.
  • Able to handle confidential information with care and discretion.
  • Must possess a valid Texas State driver’s license.

Physical requirements:

  • Able to climb ladders, kneel, crouch and reach with hands and arms in any direction.
  • Able to move heavy objects and use basic tools.
