THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Museum Relocation Site Manager, the Museum Relocation Senior Registrar will supervise a team of Inventory Specialists and be responsible for the accurate inventory and tracking of location changes of the collection of a major museum as it is deinstalled and relocated to a temporary facility prior to construction in current galleries. The Senior Registrar will ensure that the intellectual integrity of the museum collection is not compromised during the relocation, and that no artifacts are lost or misplaced during the phases of deinstallation, packing, transportation, and re-installation of the collection. The position will involve coordinating inventory activity with the client, subcontractors, and a large Artex staff.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include:
· Attending coordination meetings with Artex staff and other stakeholders in the project.
· Supervising and coordinating a team of inventory specialists in galleries throughout the museum, and occasionally off-site.
· Effectively delegating tasks and activities among Artex inventory specialists.
· Coordinating with videographers documenting the condition of large artifacts and ensuring that the condition documentation is updated in the museum’s TMS database.
· Ensuring that the current condition of all other artifacts in the collection are checked against museum-created condition reports before artifact deinstallation, and that any changes to the condition are noted and communicated to the SI Contract Technical Representative (COTR).
· Coordinating activities with the Site Manager, Artex supervisors, and subcontractors.
· Ensuring that components of deinstalled and disassembled artifacts are properly catalogued, labeled with unique identification numbers, and entered into the TMS database.
· Ensure that location changes for all artifacts are updated at the end of each work day.
· Track inventory progress by noted the number of artifacts tracked/catalogued per day.
· Track and approve hours worked each day by collection managers under the Senior Registrar’s supervision.
· Ensure that inventory activity is executed is a safe and efficient manner within the schedule and budget parameters of the project.

Required
· MA or Qualification in Museum Studies or a related field.
· Demonstrated success leading teams in complex projects under pressure with multifaceted workflows.
· Minimum of five (5) years of experience in working with, documentation, oversight, and organizational requirements for moving 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art and artifacts which are part of an AAM accredited museum’s collection.
· Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS) database system and barcoding procedures is required.

  • Must have significant knowledge of processes-driven methodologies with a strong focus on continuous process improvement;
  • Superior interpersonal and demonstrated facilitation skills, including the ability to motivate and influence others, build effective interpersonal relationships, and foster and contribute to a positive and productive team environment. 

  • Strong organizational, analytical, verbal & writing skills, to include solid experience in writing functional and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise using Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
