Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Museum Preparator for the Zimmerli Art Museum. This position plays a key role in the preparation of works for exhibitions at the Museum.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Prepares works of art on paper for in-house and travelling exhibitions including matting and framing.
- Provides storage and general care of the collections of works of art on paper.
- Performs basic conservation work when needed.
- Prepares labels for exhibitions.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in fine arts or related field or an equivalent combination of education
and/or related experience.Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience in the proper handling of artworks, matting, and framing works on paper.
- General knowledge of matting and framing a variety of works on paper mediums.
- Ability to work independently and in a timely manner.
- Familiarity with museum quality matting and framing.
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Ability to do basic math, especially with measurements.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced museum environment while maintaining professional standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Willingness to work collaboratively and seek additional professional opinions when needed.
Equipment Utilized
- Mat cutter.
- Framing tools.
- Adhesives.
- Archival supplies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to stand for most of the workday.
- Some heavy lifting required.
