    Job Description

    Under the supervision of the Chief Preparator, the Assistant Preparator performs professional duties specific to art handling; matting and framing works of art; and exhibition installation. Serves as lead preparator on temporary exhibitions as assigned, assuming responsibility for installation from planning to completion. Additionally responsible for handling, hanging, installing, and packing artworks according to museum standards for all temporary exhibitions; matting and framing all pending works for exhibition and loan, and re-housing the Museum's collection for long-term storage. Assists with incoming and outgoing loans for the museum, and all daily art movement of the Museum's collection and temporary exhibitions. Performs regular maintenance of the Museum’s exhibition galleries. The ideal candidate is able to work collaboratively as part of as a team, as well as perform as a team leader on assigned projects.

    Job Requirements

    Requirements: B.A. in studio art, art history, or related field; a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a preparator in a public gallery or museum; detailed knowledge of museum standards for packing, crating, handling, installing, and housing artworks; knowledge of loss-prevention techniques; excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing; detailed knowledge of materials and construction techniques for display, furniture, and light construction; physical abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
