The McNay Art Museum, a modern and contemporary art museum, is seeking a Head Preparator to lead a team to safely handle, move, house, install, store, and pack/unpack the collection and objects on loan. To design and fabricate all installation equipment and responsible for obtaining standard supplies and equipment to accomplish work safely and efficiently.
Qualifications:
Superior carpentry skills and electrical knowledge. A minimum of three years' experience in museum-level design and construction, and thorough knowledge of art handling and preparation techniques required. Educational/experiential requirements include demonstrated ability in handling art and familiarity with museum and storage conservation techniques. Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop/InDesign) required. Knowledge of Google Sketch-up (or similar CAD program) preferred.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid operator’s license, have proof of insurance, and have a good driving record.
Must be flexible as to working hours; evening and/or weekend duty may be required.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Must successfully pass physical examination.
