Job Description
Temporary Exhibition Maintenance Technician

The Museum at Prairiefire (MAP) was established in 2010 based on a pioneering content partnership with the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) and is scheduled to open in May 2014 in Overland Park, KS, a rapidly growing, vibrant community in the Kansas City metro area. Focused on enhancing public understanding of natural history and science, this non-collecting “startup” museum will present continuously changing world-class traveling exhibitions organized by AMNH, a Discovery Room, engaging permanent halls and experiences, education programs, science video and more. The Museum is the cultural anchor of Prairiefire, a $430M, 58-acre mixed-use project that integrates residential, office, retail and entertainment.

The current traveling exhibition is Water H20=Life. This exhibition is organized by AMNH and focuses on how water shapes our planet—and nearly every aspect of our lives. Within the exhibition are several physical interactives that include running water and open water surfaces. These interactives require daily maintenance and upkeep. We are looking for one or more part-time staff to provide maintenance services in the morning before the Museum opens.
Responsibilities will include:
· -Draining water from interactives from the previous day.
· -Disinfecting interactives and water catch systems.
· -Refilling interactives with clean water and ice.
· -Turning on interactives for the day.
· -Reporting any issues and problems with interactives as well fixing or “tinkering” with pumps, filters, and other parts.
· -Preparing ice for 3 stages interactive for the next day.
This a part-time, temporary position and the work schedule may vary week to week and may involve weekends and holidays. The typical schedule will be 7am-10am; 2-3 days/week, depending on availability. The position will start as soon as possible and run until July 13th, 2014. This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help shape an institution that will educate and inspire generations of visitors.
We are looking for the following skill sets and characteristics for the Exhibit Maintenance Technician:
· Flexible work schedule.
· Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted.
· Ability to climb ladders.
