Job Description and Position Summary:

The Bellarmine Museum of Art (BMA) at Fairfield University (Fairfield, CT) seeks a Museum Registrar, for a temporary position. The Registrar will support the BMA and the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery's exhibitions programs by overseeing and managing all aspects of the museum's permanent collections care, safety and documentation, in compliance with professional museum standards. The Registrar will also manage and maintain a database of the BMA collection using embARK, as well as arrange national and international loans and monitor environmental conditions in all galleries. Registrar will also manage a traveling exhibition. The Registrar will report to the Interim Director of the museum, and will supervise an undergraduate museum intern, as well as a team of student gallery attendants.

Job Responsibilities:
* Coordinate packing and shipping arrangements for objects on Exhibition checklists, including loaned objects (oversee handling, packing, movement, and inspection of all objects entering or leaving BMA or WAG, including traveling exhibitions)
* Register incoming loans and track exhibition-related activity of all objects (in Collection and loans) through emBARK, and ensure terms of loan are properly communicated to staff and upheld while object is in the care of BMA
* Responsible for overseeing the inspection of objects, entering and leaving BMA and WAG, and the execution of incoming/outgoing condition reports and loan forms
* Responsible for overseeing and coordinating object moves as related to gallery installation and de-installation for Exhibitions activity
* Process new acquisitions to the Collection, and apply established Collections Management procedures for their safekeeping, storage and movement
* Follow established procedures for maintaining records of accession, condition, and location of objects in collection, both permanent and loaned, and for overseeing movement, packing, and shipping of objects to conform to insurance regulations and best practices
* Monitor art storage and exhibition spaces for temperature/humidity, environmental hazards, safety, cleanliness, and ongoing maintenance concerns

Additional Duties:

o Assisting with planning and implementation of exhibition programming and special events

o Scheduling classes and groups usage of the museum classroom

o Opening and closing the museum in the Director's absence

o Assisting with general museum administration and other tasks as assigned

Position Requires:

o Bachelor's Degree; in Art History, Museum Studies or similar field

o Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a museum or similar non-profit center

o Excellent attention to detail with ability to do repetitive tasks

o Strong commitment to quality control, excellent communication, and collaboration

o Strong computer skills: expert facility with MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and Adobe PhotoShop and Acrobat.

o Experience with embARK preferred

o Previous experience shipping loans and/or exhibitions domestically and internationally

o Familiarity with AAM current best practices and standards in the field of collections management (including art handling, packing and shipping)

o Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal)

o Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and to meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

o Ability to be equally effective when working independently or as a part of a team

o Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced work environment

o Experience with art historical/provenance research
