The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Supervisor, Exhibits and Technical for our Education and Exhibits Department. This position is responsible for managing team of exhibit technicians, coordinating installation and deinstallation schedules, budgets, supplies and materials.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Works closely with Senior Manager, Exhibits and Director of Exhibits
The management and maintenance of permanent and temporary exhibits
Supervise team of exhibit technicians
Schedule, manage, and track exhibit installation, deinstallation, maintenance, and cleaning
Create and manage budget(s) in concert with other members of Exhibits department
Hire and supervise additional temporary or permanent exhibit technicians
Order supplies and materials
Work with others in department on exhibit related projects
Liaise with members of other departments as well as vendors and representatives from other institutions
Conduct meetings with subordinates and attend meetings with management, other museum departments, and outside vendors
Support the Education and Exhibit Department projects and programs, including the nature gardens, as needed
Other duties as assigned
This position has the following requirements:
Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as a leader of a small and high-functioning group of exhibit technicians
Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and scheduling conflicts, interpret instructions, and analyze data
Act with integrity and have the ability to carry oneself with the demeanor, decorum and professionalism needed for the position and its interaction with others
Has the capability to organize and prioritize multiple requests and projects
Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, co-workers, vendors and the general public
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings
Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, probability and statistics
Experience using a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
Valid CA driver’s license and personal automobile liability insurance or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation needed to carry out the essential functions of the job
Minimum 2 years of experience with progressively greater responsibility and successful outcomes for a comparable program or function
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
