Position Announcement
Position summary: The North Carolina Museum of Art seeks an Art Handler. This position works under the supervision of the Chief Registrar and Head Art Handler while working closely with the Conservation, Design, and Photography departments. Position provides support in the safe handling of art in all media including installation, deinstallation, and packing. Duties include framing and unframing works of art, selecting appropriate packing materials for the transport of art, and custom-fitting crates or containers for storage and transport of art. Position calls for frequent deliveries and pickups at private and public collections. Position is also responsible for the operation and monitoring of routine care for the customized, climate-controlled art truck. Position also performs weekly dusting and cleaning of pedestals and vitrines in exhibition spaces. Other duties include monitoring inventory of packing, crating, and installation materials including tools and supplies.

The North Carolina Museum of Art houses the art collections of the State of North Carolina. The permanent collection is comprised of nearly 4000 objects and spans a chronological range of approximately 5,000 years. The Museum offers changing national touring exhibitions, classes, lectures, family activities, films, and concerts.
The Museum completed a major expansion and renovation project in 2010 featuring a new 127,000-square-foot, light-filled gallery building designed to showcase the permanent collection. The Museum Park encompassing 164 acres of fields, woodlands, and creeks and presents a unique setting for more than a dozen site-specific works of art by both international and local artists.
