Providence is calling a Collections Cataloguer - Temporary (2-3 years) to Providence Archives in Spokane, WA. *
Providence Archives, Seattle, Washington, is the historical repository for the Sisters of Providence religious community in the West and Providence Health & Services, Renton, Washington. The Archive maintains a large collection of historical artifacts relating to the religious community and the health care, education and social service ministries in the West since 1856. Artifacts have been used for many purposes: exhibits at the system office, ministries, and archival outreach programs; anniversaries; fundraising events; research and study; and national traveling exhibits. The main artifact collection is stored in Spokane, Washington while the main repository for historical records and photographs is in Seattle, Washington.
In this position you will:


[*=left]Plan and implement a work schedule to catalogue the artifacts, the collection is about 4000 items and approximately 25% are currently catalogued.
[*=left]Use Providence Archives approved procedures and methods for cataloguing artifacts including assigning numbers, description, photograph, research, condition report and storage location.
[*=left]Search the legacy paper accession records for artifact accessions; transfer these accession records into a database; and update the database record with the object's catalogue number after it has been catalogued.
[*=left]Evaluate artifact collection and make recommendations for items to retain and deaccession, in consultation with archives staff
[*=left]Perform basic conservation, as needed
[*=left]Store items in appropriate containers for protection and preservation
[*=left]Prepare progress reports for Archives manager
[*=left]Recommend, as appropriate, changes in cataloguing procedures to enhance the cataloguing process
[*=left]Recommend, retrieve and prepare artifacts for transfer to Seattle or another location for exhibit or study, when requested

Required qualifications for this position include:


[*=left]B.A. in museum studies, related field or equivalent experience
[*=left]Two to three years experience as a collections registrar
[*=left]Basic photographic skills
[*=left]Experience with Microsoft Office suite

Preferred qualifications for this position include:


[*=left]Experience with ContentDM and/or DBTextworks/InMagic, Adobe Photoshop
