The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, in its affiliation with Florida State University, is one of the largest museum/university complexes in the nation. Located on 66-acres of Sarasota bay front property, it preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling, educating and enabling a large and diverse audience to experience and take delight in a world-renowned collection of fine art and special exhibitions; Ca d'Zan, the Ringling historic mansion; the Circus Museums; the Tibbals Learning Center; the Historic Asolo Theater; and historic architecture, courtyard, gardens and grounds overlooking the Sarasota Bay. The Visitors Pavilion serves over 350,000 guests annually. An Education Building houses our library, conservation facility, classrooms, and staff offices.
Responsibilities
The one-year Selby Conservation Fellowship will provide the successful candidate with a rich and varied experience in the examination, documentation, and treatment of paintings under the supervision of the Chief Conservator. The Fellow will also be actively involved in the care of other types of objects in the diverse museum collections. Responsibilities will include participation in the planning and implementation of the dynamic exhibitions and loans program. Beyond contributing to the routine activities of the Conservation department, it is anticipated that the Fellow will play an active role in the ongoing survey of over 300 Italian, French, and Spanish paintings in the museum collection, to generate technical information to be used in the new museum catalogue and to help set conservation treatment priorities. Consultation and collaboration with other members of the Collections team and other museum departments are essential components of the Fellowship.

This Visiting Faculty appointment is scheduled to begin approximately in September 2015 and last for 1year.
Anticipated Salary Range
$27,500/year with Florida State benefits available.
Schedule
Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Evenings and weekends may be required to meet program needs.

Job RequirementsQualifications
A Master's degree in Art Conservation or an equivalent degree.
A sound understanding of the principles and practices of preventative conservation as well as conservation examination, documentation, and treatment of paintings.
Excellent writing ability and proficient English language skills (written and spoken).
Preferred
Experience in having carried out the technical examination of paintings as part of museum catalogue production.
Demonstrated ability in conducting research and carrying out scientific analysis.
Previous museum conservation experience.
Background Check Requirements
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.
