This position works in our LuEsther T. Mertz Library and coordinates the
exhibitions program in the Rondina and LoFaro Gallery. Exhibitions draw
from the Library’s extensive collections, as well as loaned objects for
major art and humanities shows. (See, for example, the art-historical
component of our current exhibition, *FRIDA KAHLO: Art, Garden,

*BASIC JOB FUNCTION:*
The Exhibitions Coordinator will respond to reference and research requests
from staff, visiting researchers and public patrons; for research and
interpretation of the collections; and for the visual presentation and
interpretation of exhibits in the Rondina and LoFaro Gallary. He/She will
develop, plan, organize and manage most facets of the Library’s ongoing
exhibitions program as well as supports Library researches in their use of
the collections.

*Specific Duties and Responsibilities:*
• Oversees planning, curation, and interpretation of library exhibits in
the gallery
• Works with guest curators to develop content from initial planning stages
to completion
• Researches and writes interpretive content for exhibition including
exhibit labels and exhibition catalog entries
• Oversees logistics of Gallery design, installation, and all vendors for
look of Gallery (in consultation with Conservation staff)
• Provides specialized, guided tours of exhibitions to donors, visitor
services staff, volunteers/tour guides, and the press
• Prepares loan requests for all incoming and outgoing loans
• Supervises the Museum Registrar, and oversees the preparation of
estimates for exhibitions budgets with regards to shipping, insurance,
packing, crating, loan fees and courier costs
• Works closely with Horticulture Exhibitions, Marketing and Communications
to coordinate image use for exhibition catalogs, Garden-wide use, and press
packets
• Works closely with Development and Director of the Library to write
content for exhibition grants
• Responsible for creating and overseeing exhibitions policies, while
ensuring compliance with the best practice standards and for remaining
professionally active and aware of the latest trends in exhibition design
and presentation methods
• Keeps current on developments in exhibit design, techniques, and
technologies and innovations
• Oversees use of the Library’s collections for exhibition use and outgoing
loans

*REQUIREMENTS: *
• Graduate degree or certificate with a background in art history,
curatorial studies, or museum studies
• Experience with all aspects of exhibitions planning, installation and
design
• Knowledge of museum trends in interpretation, security, lighting and
technology
• Knowledge of digital photography, Photoshop and web design principles
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Familiarity with AAM Code of Ethics
• Knowledge of at least one foreign language desirable
• Must be detail oriented, well organized and able to manage multiple tasks
• Experience with grant writing
