Description:
The Museum Preparator is a vital resource in exhibition planning, scheduling and budgeting of the museum's exhibition schedule and special installation needs. This position serves as the project manager for the design, coordination and fabrication of exhibitions.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in arts-related field required.
Minimum Requirements:
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a Museum Preparator or equivalent in education, training and experience
Working knowledge of fine art logistics (shipping, handling, packing, and storage) and experience handling paintings, sculpture, works on paper, textiles, and decorative arts
Excellent communication skills, team orientation, and experience with art installation
Demonstrated experience with advanced carpentry techniques and with heavy woodworking machinery and tools
Must possess ability to work independently and accurately and make reasoned decisions on short notice
Preferred Requirements:
Experience with electric lifts, rigging, and cranes
Familiarity with American Alliance of Museums (AAM) accreditation policy
Additional Information:
Must be able to lift, push, pull, support and carry loads of 50 lbs. in and out of trucks. Position requires incumbent to climb ladders and scaffolding and operate electric lifts.Hiring offers for this position are contingent on successful completion of a background check.
