GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Chief Registrar, the Assistant Registrar will assist with all aspects of collections management including the documentation, management, movement, object numbering, condition reporting, and care of all permanent collection objects and objects on loan. The Assistant Registrar will manage registration duties for a portion of the exhibition schedule.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



Responsible for processing incoming objects, including object numbering, condition reporting, and ensuring that all objects have a corresponding documentary photograph.

Maintain storage areas in both facilities, including assessing storage needs and appropriately housing objects.

Participate in Registration staff goal setting and goal achievement

Arrange for object movement between facilities and to and from donors and lenders.

Responsible for all registration duties for two to five exhibitions per year.

Work with art handlers to pack objects for transit.

Help maintain the collections database.

Lead routine gallery and storage inspection and cleaning.

Assist with external correspondence regarding research inquiries for collection information.

Work with registration staff to ensure safe and proper handling and movement of artwork.

Other duties as assigned by the Chief Registrar, to include but not limited to assisting with exhibition installation/deinstallation, assisting with photo shoots, inventory, and clerical duties.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION:

EDUCATION: BA or BFA in Museum Studies or related field. Masters Degree preferred.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years professional museum registration experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Must be self-motivated, well organized, detail-oriented and have strong interpersonal (oral and written) communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and positively to achieve objectives and effectively explore and address challenges.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/ATTRIBUTES –



Excellent communication skills, time management, and project management skills.

Must maintain confidentiality.

Ability to define goals follows projects through to completion, handle multiple projects concurrently, and use good judgment.

Ability to work with a team and independently, with accuracy and minimal guidance. Work well with others within department and institution.

Strong computer skills, including collections management database experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft® software applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Knowledge of The Mint Museum’s collections, goals, values and mission.


WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Must be able to visually inspect artwork. Must have the ability to bend, lift 40 lbs. without assistance, and climb stairs. Must have valid driver’s license.
