Remai Modern is a stunning 130,000 square foot gallery located at River Landing in Saskatoon, Canada, one of Canada’s fastest growing cities. With a projected annual attendance of over 220,000, Remai Modern will offer year-round exhibitions and innovative programming for visitors of all ages.
The Gallery is seeking an Exhibition Manager that will facilitate the process of planning the Gallery¹s exhibition program, working in concert with the Director of Programs/Chief Curator, the Curators, the Leadership Team and other staff to ensure the program aligns with the Gallery¹s mission and brand. The Exhibition Manager will have a strong knowledge of modern and contemporary art, as well as a background in managing complex projects, deadlines and budgets. The Exhibition Manager will have knowledge of museum standards and practices for exhibition management. This team member plays a defining role in the gallery, connecting and collaborating with lenders, borrowers, and museum staff, as needed, to implement various types of logistics.
Remai Modern’s projected opening is 2017.
SCOPE AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILIITES:



Facilitates the process of planning the Gallery’s exhibition program, working in concert with the Director of Programs/Chief Curator, the Leadership Team and other staff to ensure the program aligns with the Gallery’s mission and brand.

Manages the exhibition review process, helping to identify and negotiate exhibition opportunities.

Collaborates with lenders, borrowers, and museum staff, as needed, to implement various types of logistics as they relate to the areas below:

Coordinates exhibitions committee meetings, including scheduling, preparing agendas and planning documents, and recording and archiving minutes.

Determines dates and deadlines for exhibition and permanent collection rotations for checklists, floor plans, labels, text, graphics, and other design elements, and for all interactive materials.

Maintains the master exhibition calendar, determining dates with cross-departmental input and communicating updates and exhibition information to Gallery staff.

Assists with developing and maintaining standardized exhibition planning documents and processes. Work closely with curatorial staff to create production schedules and monitor deadlines.

Drafts, negotiates, and process exhibition-related contracts and coordinates internal reviews to secure approvals.

Manages touring exhibitions, working closely with curators to prepare prospectuses and secure venues. Delivers exhibition materials and catalogs to venues and serves as the main staff contact.

Schedules and completes follow up contact with other institutions regarding exhibition proposals sent by and/or to them.

Manages exhibition budgets, coordinating periodic budget review meetings, as needed. Creates budget projections for future planning purposes. Tracks budget expenses for each exhibition and invoices outside institutions and track payments.

Manages, coaches, and mentors registration and preparatory staff.

Oversees internal and external post-exhibition reports.

Collaborates and coordinates with curatorial, installation, graphic design, and PR and marketing staff to achieve a unified visual identity for each exhibition throughout marketing materials and the Gallery experience.

Coordinates cross-departmentally to ensure consistency of house style and design format in museum labels, wall texts, and gallery signage.

Coordinates completion of floor plans, and other design elements, for distribution, review and approval by appropriate staff.

Routes labels and other didactics for review, editing and approval by established deadlines.

Monitors exhibition credit lines and checklists to ensure most updated are available to all staff.

Coordinates meetings and other activities with outside contractors for exhibitions.

Adheres to museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.




RequirementsEDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:


University degree in art history or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Three years’ of work experience in an exhibitions management or curatorial capacity. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Thorough knowledge of art history.

Knowledge of museum standards and practices for exhibition management.

Knowledge of art handling, shipping and collections care.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, trustees, volunteers, vendors, artists, donors, sponsors, stakeholders, partners and the public.

Demonstrated ability to direct and support staff in achieving desired results.

Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality related to Gallery collections and operations.

Ability to think strategically about institutional mission, goals, and priorities.

Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.

Demonstrated skill in the use of a computer with Microsoft Office software, Google Sketchup and collection management systems, such as TMS.


Hours: Evening and weekend work may be involved.
Salary: $78,057.84 to $91,718.64 per annum.
