Exhibitions Contract RegistrarsShort Term Positions (Full time for 2 – 5 weeks at a time)The Field Museum seeks experienced Exhibition Registrars to serve in a contract capacity for a robust program oftemporary and traveling exhibitions.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Exhibition Installation & Object/Artifact Care• Collaborate to plan and administer detailed artifact installation and de-installation schedules with Field MuseumExhibitions Registration staff and Production Managers for assigned projects• For exhibitions onsite at the Field Museum, collaborate with Production Managers to coordinate teams of objectbasedstaff for installations and de-installations to ensure compliance with lender/courier requirements• At host venues for Field Museum traveling exhibitions, manage teams of object-based staff to ensure properobject handling and movement• Supervise artifact handling contractors• Create and complete detailed condition reports with couriers and/or other registrars• Perform duties as artifact handler and object transporter• Maintain security protocols, in close collaboration with museum security personnel• With conservators, monitor object conditions and environmentsShipping• Monitor the loading, unloading, packing, unpacking, and movement of exhibition objects• Serve as a courierSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS• Travel up to 5 weeks at a time and possess a current passport• Work occasional early, late, weekend, and long hours• Comfortable working with a variety of objects including art, artifacts, scientific specimens, and human remains• Perform physical activities related to working with objects such as stooping, kneeling, lifting, and enduringvarious temperatures during outdoor loading and unloading• Work well with people/institutions of different cultures, nationalities, and localities• Maintain calm demeanor and problem-solve creatively in a fast-paced environment• Maintain strict confidentiality• Represent the Field Museum in a positive mannerQUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree. At least 5 years working in museum registration or collections management, with specific experiencein exhibition installation and artifact handling. Superior judgment, professional initiative, and attention to detail.Excellent communication skills and collaborative nature.
