We provide transportation, crating and packing, storage, installation, rigging, and conservation services to museums, galleries, and auction houses, as well as private and corporate collections. This job posting is for a museum collections project in the Washington, DC metro area.
THE ROLE
Under the guidance and direction of a Project Lead, Senior Art Handler or Lead Driver, the Art Handler is responsible for art and museum collections packing, local transport and storage maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Project Lead, Senior Art Handler or Lead Driver, provides professional practices for object care, display, movement, and storage.
Assist or complete required services as outlined by Bill of Ladings and/or instructions as assigned by the lead driver or project lead.
Packs and handles art and museum collections for transit.
Loads and unloads trucks.
Provides friendly, quality professional service to customers at all times and develops close working relationships.
Performs work safely in accordance with Artex safety procedures and operates equipment safely
Maintains required paperwork
Identifying and understanding potential and real workplace hazards for personnel or for art and museum objects.
Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Understands basic standards of art/artifact handling, packing and storage methods.
Working knowledge of museum best practices for collections care preferred.
The ability to work collaboratively and follow instructions.
Detail oriented, self-motivated, and a keen sense of mission.
Able to use basic math i.e. fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the ability to navigate within the internet required.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma/GED equivalent or 1 year of art handling experience, or museum studies background. Must have the ability to work flexible schedules.
