RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not necessarily limited to:

Assist in implementing approved designs within designated spaces. Maintain the permanent and temporary exhibit spaces throughout the Museum of Springfield History and the Dr. Seuss Museum, according to museums standards.Maintain regular cleaning schedule of all exhibit spaces throughout both Museums. Dust galleries, clean exhibit cases, dust frames, replace brochures.

Monitor and adjust light levels in galleries and replace light bulbs. Walk-through buildings regularly to check lighting, general conditions, and cleanliness and respond accordingly.Trouble-shoot problems.Keep the Manager of Exhibition Installation and the Museum Directors informed of building issues.

Fabricate, install, maintain and dismantle exhibitions under supervision of the Manager of Exhibition and Installation. Prepare galleries prior to exhibit installation. Mount permanent and temporary exhibitions.Prepare, mount and install labels. Mat and frame artwork. Hang artwork, mount and/or place sculptures. Cast and mold collections objects for exhibition. Develop and maintain interactive components for exhibition and permanent galleries. Research cost-effective ways to increase visitor experience via technology and interactive exhibit elements. Implement use of technology, coordinate efforts with other departments, record and edit digital information, develop and install programs, monitor use, update and maintain programs.

Assist in transport, packing, unpacking, and cleaning exhibition objects. Assist with packing and crating collections objects as requested. Assist other Museums staff in transportation of objects inside and between Museums and other locations. Assist set-up personnel in preparation and/or maintenance for special events and routine procedures requiring extra assistance (i.e. large packing jobs, large object moving, truck loading, etc.). Assist in maintaining a working preparation area.

Maintain supplies and equipment. Utilize various carpentry and construction skills in preparation of exhibits. Perform other similar duties as required by responsibilities or assigned by the Manager of Exhibition and Installation.

QUALIFICATIONS include, but are not necessarily limited to:

Training or experience of professional museum exhibition techniques and procedures; knowledge of latest packing and crating techniques; ability to interpret construction drawings. Knowledge of physical properties of art and construction materials. Technical knowledge required to develop, install and maintain interactive components for exhibition and permanent galleries.
A Bachelor’s degree, 2-3 years of experience, and a valid Driver’s license required.
