Intern Position Description: Collections Management InternSummary: The intern will assist with all aspects of collections management including the documentation,management, movement, and care of the museum collection and loan objects.Responsibilities: • Taking weekly measurements of environment factors in storage rooms and exhibition areas• Processing new acquisitions, found-in-collections, and cataloging backlog: including researching,photographing, marking, cataloging, preventative care, housing, and storing• Assist with social media publications of collections including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube• Assist in implementing best practices in collection storage areas by re-housing and inventoryingpermanent collection objects• Record reconciliation and reorganization• Assist in public research requests, donor/vendor relations, and newsletter articles• Assist with exhibition installation, de-installation, and condition reporting• Assist with unpacking, packing, and shipping of loaned objects• Other duties as needed including clerical and maintenance dutiesSkills Required: • Education Experience: Currently enrolled in or recently completed an accredited museumstudies, public history, history, art history, fine art, archaeology, or other related program.Familiarity with registration methods, museum collections management, and artifact handlingpractices required. Prior experience with artifact care preferred.• Language Skills: Ability to learn and communicate by written and oral instructions.• Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel are required. Familiaritywith PastPerfect (or other collections management database experience), Adobe preferred.• Reasoning Ability: Requires ability to research the history and provenance of permanentcollection objects and objects on loan and make reasoned judgments about management and careof those objects.Time Commitment: Ability to work 150 to 300 hour commitment (for non–paid internship); Shift is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.;M-F varies.Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment.Physical Demands: Some lifting may be required.Training: Training provided.Notes: At least 18 years old.Application Process: Please contact Liz Fisher, Registrar, by email (LFisher@BoonshoftMuseum.org) and include aresume and statement of interest.
