The Exhibit Technician is responsible for maintaining the function and appearance of BADM’s permanent and changing exhibitions, participating in the fabrication of new exhibit elements, and creating onsite signage. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Exhibit Manager.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and follow maintenance schedules and checklists with supervisor.
Repair and provide preventative maintenance for all exhibits (i.e., mechanical, graphic, and environmental/scenic components, expendable exhibit supplies, etc.) to ensure visitor satisfaction.
Provide scheduled and emergency exhibit maintenance.
Assist with installation and removal of temporary and permanent exhibits.
Assist with fabrication of new interactive exhibits and/or prototypes.
Design and fabricate signage using Adobe Illustrator and vinyl plotter.
Maintain marine animal tanks; order supplies and work with contractors as necessary.
Log and update status of ongoing job/project orders from museum staff using Helpdesk ticketing system.
Help ensure general shop safety, serviceability, and proper use of tools and equipment by participating in shop maintenance tasks as appropriate.
Attend and participate in weekly exhibits team and exhibits content meetings.
At least once a month, serve as designated Duty Officer to ensure the safety of visitors and staff
Work with outside vendors and contractors as needed to maintain exhibit supplies.
Assist with set up and breakdown of museum festivals and events.
Assist facilities department as needed.
Additional tasks and / or responsibilities as required.
Requirements
Skill and aptitude in carpentry, scenic painting, plumbing, mechanical/electrical devices metal and plastics fabrication. Demonstrated experience with hand and power tools.
Working knowledge of fabrication equipment such as a vinyl plotter, laser cutter, 3D printer, and CNC router.
Proficiency in design software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
Creativity and orientation towards problem-solving.
Ability to take initiative and troubleshoot in a fast paced work environment.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Mature, friendly, flexible and service-oriented personality.
Ability to operate forklift and drive flatbed truck.
