THE MUSEUM
The Berman Museum is a component unit of the Museum Department of the City of Anniston, Alabama. The Department consists of the AAM accredited Anniston Museum of Natural History, the Berman Museum, and the Longleaf Botanical Gardens. The Berman Museum began operations in 1996, exhibiting the extensive collection of its founder, Farley Berman. The Berman Museum is currently re-assessing its long range goals and planning for how to effectively carry out its mission. The Berman Museum is seeking a museum registrar to join the professional staff.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Museum Registrar at the Berman Museum is responsible for the museum’s collections. The Registrar manages the acquisitions, accessioning, de-accessioning, cataloging, as well as the maintenance of the collections management program (Accumulatus). Other critical duties of the Registrar include monitoring of environmental conditions and controls, managing incoming and outgoing loans and travelling exhibits. The Registrar initiates and manages the rotating exhibit schedule. The Registrar works collaboratively in the installation and deconstruction of exhibits and displays. The Registrar collaborates with the education department, marketing, and other professional staff from the sister organizations of the Anniston Museum of Natural History and the Longleaf Gardens.
The mission of the Berman Museum is to preserve, manage, collect, and utilize for educational purposes, historically significant property pertaining to the history of the world, in order to bring people and history together. This mission is founded upon two beliefs: that understanding of the past enriches people’s lives, and the life of the past and the manner in which history repeats itself are most enjoyed through individual firsthand experience of distinguished original historic artifacts.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in American History/Public History or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:


Master’s degree in museum studies, history or related field.
Experience handling armaments
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
