General Purpose: In collaboration with the Curator of Photography and Media Arts and the Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings, the Collections Manager of Works on Paper will manage and care for the museum’s collection of over 15,000 prints, drawings, and photographs. The position involves a wide variety of duties. The primary responsibilities are to manage and care for the 15,000+ objects in the collection of works on paper (prints, drawings and photographs); conduct research on objects in the collection to create a precise and accurate archive of object files and maintain the TMS database; manage public access to the Herzfeld Print, Drawing, and Photography Study Center; manage all works on paper rotations; conduct class visits in the Herzfeld Foundation Study Center; provide administrative and curatorial support for the curators; manage and provide administrative support for Print Forum; manage and maintain safety, orderliness, and organization of works on paper storage area.

Duties & Responsibilities: Care for and interpret MAM’s collection of more than 15,000 works on paper. Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the collection of works on paper. Assist curators with the organization of exhibitions including research, writing labels, project management, acting as a liaison between departments, conducting rights and reproductions requests and sending and following up with loan forms. Assist curators in maintaining museum relationships with scholars, donors, colleagues, and artists. Provide curators with administrative support associated with acquisitions, exhibitions and programming. This may include pulling prints, responding to research requests, cataloging and imaging objects in the collection, pre-acquisitions research, maintaining object files, reviewing works for website and other imaging requests, working with preparators and implementing re-housing when necessary. Assist public with research requests. Work closely with Print Forum to manage all aspects of the support group, including donor relations, administrative support, budget oversight, program development; coordinate travel and transportation for speakers and special guests
Herzfeld Study Center: Oversee and conduct group visits and individual appointments; provide an informative overview of the works on paper collection to groups; assist researchers and groups in finding works on paper related to their research interests; lead discussions with instructor during class/group visits; facilitate access to the collection for staff and visitors; pull and file works on paper; supervise interns who assist with these tasks; promote public knowledge and use of the facility; offer tours of study center and works on paper storage to visiting groups; manage study room calendar; enforce study room rules and procedures and ensure safety and security of collection during all visits

Collection care, record keeping, and storage: Care for the works on paper collection; point person for collection; track incoming and outgoing work; research and catalogue collection; create, maintain, and update records in collections database; prepare and maintain object files and artist files; pull and file objects from storage; train and supervise interns who assist in these tasks; liaison with registration and conservation on all housing and collection initiatives; conduct periodic inventories of collection; in conjunction with curatorial staff, periodically assess storage needs


Print Forum: In consultation with the Associate Curator of Prints, schedule, coordinate, and prepare Board meetings and events; take all RSVPs for events; design flyers; organize mailings; maintain communications and other correspondence; liaison with members, public, and MAM staff; prepare and keep all financial and business records; manage budget; coordinate travel and transportation for speakers and special guests; manage newsletter; program development and management; provide leadership at Board meetings and programs/events; maintain donor/member relations.


Collection exhibitions: In conjunction with curatorial staff, project manage rotations from the Collection when asked, including research, didactic material, record keeping, database maintenance, interdepartmental coordination, and administrative tasks; assist curators with these tasks for their own exhibitions.

RequirementsEducation/Experience Requirements: BA in art history or museum studies (MA in collection management preferred); prior registrarial and/or collections management experience; art handling experience; administrative experience; database skills; specialized knowledge in at least one area of works on paper; excellent communication skills; ability to work with others; reading knowledge of German or French preferred.
License or Certification Requirements: Advanced degree in museum studies, collection management, or art history preferred but not required.

Manages time efficiently, analyze and solve problems independently and if necessary, collaboratively. Ability to be flexible and embrace changes within this position due to departmental priorities. Ability to work with a wide variety of people to achieve the goals of the Museum.
