Hyde Park Art Center seeks full-time Preparator for the general preparation of the Art Center’s exhibitions program, including the public art digital gallery located on the façade. Hyde Park Art Center is a leading visual-art institution that uniquely combines the qualities of a community-based organization with those of a nationally-recognized exhibitions program and international residency program.
Qualifications:
Hyde Park Art Center’s Preparator reports to the Director of Exhibitions and is a hard-working, supportive, and skilled person that works well independently as well as in a team environment. This full-time position is responsible for the general preparation of the Art Center’s exhibitions program, including the digital art gallery located on the building’s façade. The position also includes the management and regular upkeep of the Hyde Park Art Center woodshop, art storage areas, and galleries - ensuring that they are polished, clean, properly lit and professionally installed and presented. This person will also work closely with all guest curators and exhibiting artists/ international artists in residence in realizing new artwork in all media.

Proficient with power tools; general construction skills required
Confident in problem-solving technology using both PC and MAC computers
Excellent organizational skills and proven knowledge of best practices for art handling.
Candidate must be able to lift 100 lbs.
Must be detail-oriented, keep a clean workspace, reliable, and possess good communication skills.

Specific Responsibilities:


Manage all art handling, exhibition installation and construction for 10-15 exhibitions annually
Audio visual equipment repairs and maintenance
Maintain and manage a basic wood shop and related workshops, activities and classes when needed
Lead installations of all six galleries including on select weekends and evenings
Support staff with tech needs at openings, talks, and events
Generate and administer paperwork for loans and transportation receipts
Plan and schedule deadlines for exhibition installation with Director of Exhibitions
Coordinate exhibitions from the installation planning process and delivery, to the mounting and breakdown of exhibitions
Build and maintain all exhibition display materials
Oversee and instruct interns to assist in exhibition installation and maintenance tasks.

Compensation and Benefits:
The Preparator is a full-time, salaried position in the mid to high 30s based on experience. Benefits include: health and life insurance, dental insurance, and vacation time.
