SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Director of Traveling Exhibitions and Project Management serves two critical functions: 1) manages a strong traveling exhibition program (including exhibits created and hosted by the Museum) that aligns with the Museum's mission, generates revenue, attracts and engages a broad range of audiences, and positions the Museum of Science as a leader within the science museum field; and 2) oversees the Museum's exhibit project management team that creates both permanent and temporary exhibitions. This position plays a strategic role within Exhibit Development and Conservation area as it unites together the systems and processes applied to the development of both traveling and permanent exhibitions. The Director of Traveling Exhibitions and Project Management is also a highly visible position as this individual works under the direction of the Vice President of Exhibit Development and Conservation and with a five or more senior leaders from across the Museum to create, maintain, and implement a master strategy for finding and selecting traveling exhibitions hosted by the Museum. The Director is also responsible for the development and tour management of traveling exhibitions created by the Museum, which is a critical area of growth for the Museum over the next five years.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Simultaneously oversee the national/international tour of 2 to 4 large exhibitions (8,000+ sq. ft.) and 1 to 5 small exhibitions (<=4,000 sq. ft.).
Manage the development of 1 to 3 new traveling exhibitions at a time.
Manage the installation and execution of 1 to 3 large traveling exhibitions (8,000+ sq ft.) and 1 to 4 small traveling exhibitions (<4,000 sq. ft.) per year.
Manage budgets ranging from $50,000 to $10,000,000.
Direct and Manage the work of two departments, which include 2 to 4 traveling exhibition coordinators and 2 to 5 project managers.


WORK SCHEDULE:
This position is full-time, 40hrs/wk, Monday-Friday

REPORTS TO:
VP, Exhibit Development & Conservation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor of Science or Arts and additional course work.
5 or more years of project management experience.
Leading a creative or technical team that is creating a marketable product.
Creating and monitoring budgets.
Creating and monitoring timelines.
Using EXCEL and project management software.
Managing staff.
Developing work systems or processes that are used by 10 or more individuals.


STARTING SALARY:
Exempt (Salaried).
