The NASCAR Hall of Fame seeks an Exhibit Manager to serve as a critical part of its exhibition content development team. A hands on roll, this position will actively participate in all facets of exhibit work from space planning to installation. The position will accomplish a variety of work such as this through developing exhibit project timelines, production schedules, design drafts, and installation planning and work in a highly collaborative environment. The position will take a lead role in interfacing with external design and production vendors. The position will assist the curatorial team in transforming intellectual content into guest experiences through the coordination of design documents. In addition the position will serve as the main point of contact between the operations and events teams to ensure exhibits are well maintained and to coordinate any event related movement work.
Essential Job Duties


Collaborate with the Director of Exhibits, Curatorial Staff, Education Program staff and collections staff in the establishment and organization of exhibit content as part of exhibition development team.



Coordinate the development of exhibits from conception through completion, including project plans, installation, milestone development.



Develop realistic and achievable schedules for execution of multiple simultaneous exhibition projects.



Work closely with Director of Exhibits and Curators to transform curatorial concepts into designs and experiences using sketches, illustrations, models, etc.



Coordinate design packages, prototypes and presentation packages with internal partners and external vendors.



Track exhibit refresh needs and execute changes through the content to production phases.



Coordinate with operation staff exhibit maintenance needs.



Work in a highly collaborative fashion with other staff and third parties.



Drive internal success through the developing and monitoring a workflow that results in creative exhibitions delivered on mission, on time, and on budget.



Write RFPs and manage outside exhibit development vendors, insuring that the work meets the highest professional standards.



Work closely with Exhibits Director to create budgets for exhibit expenses.



Track exhibition expenses throughout the life cycle of each project and manage expenses to deliver projects on budget.



Prepare periodic reporting, as needed, on exhibition development progress.



Oversee the retention of accurate records and archives of exhibitions.



Stay educated and informed on new trends and best practices in exhibition development and design.



Assist curators in research needs



RequirementsEducation and Experience
A Master’s Degree in Museum Studies is preferred for this position, as well as a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a museum/science center. Experience may be substituted for education depending on the candidates’ particular employment history.
The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience developing exhibits from concept to completion, with specific skill in project management and transforming content into experiences and applying creative solutions across all aspects of exhibit components from floor plans to artifact placement.
Specific skills:


Excellent time management with proven success to create and manage project and: in ability to develop project timelines production schedules, and vendor management
Demonstrated knowledge of all stages of exhibit development from concept to installation.
Demonstrated experience transforming concepts into exhibits, specifically in the areas of history and/or technology
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
A history of collaborating across multiple museum disciplines including curators, educators and collections managers
Experience with artifact handling and complex installation projects
Ability to read technical drawings such as floorplans, elevations, graphics packages, etc: Experience using drafting programs such as SketchUp a plus.
Familiarity with museum databases, such as Past Perfect
Skilled in the Adobe suite of products, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrated
Experience in a project management system such as Microsoft Project or other tools
Activity in professional organizations such as AAM and NAME.
