General Purpose:
As the Yale University Art Gallery completes renovations of several buildings, preparation is underway towards installation of exhibits into the new space. Reporting to the Director of Exhibitions, and supervised by the Exhibitions Production Manager, the Museum Technician will work to produce exhibition display furniture, modular wall system components and case display components. This full time position has a duration to December 3, 2011.

Position Description:
1. Working from dimensioned and detailed design drawings, produce shop drawings.
2. Produce work plan for each shop assignment, detailed materials lists, work and delivery schedules, manpower needs. Orchestrate movement of material from shop or storage facilities to the Art Gallery.
3. Perform, as a lead, in the production of exhibition materials. Assign assistants, if required, in the production of component parts or in the execution of associated tasks.
4. Assist, if required, in the production of exhibition materials. Function as an assistant to assigned shop leader.
5. Assist with the movement of art and exhibit components at the direction of Installations and Registrar personnel.
6. Work in the galleries as part of an installation team: install and secure wall panels, platforms, display cases, pedestals, labels and signs.
7. Construct and upholster case interior components.
8. Assist with the maintenance of art storage and production spaces; vacuum and dust art storage room and furniture and shop tool areas; add or replace materials, as needed, to protect or support works while in storage.
9. Assemble prefabricated cardboard trays and other module packing systems for warehousing artwork.
10. Ability to be trained on and utilize OSHA approved safety equipment such as respirators and protective clothing.

Qualifications:
1. Experience in shop production (e.g., cabinetry production) or experience with production of exhibition display furniture or cabinetry (e.g., production of display pedestals, platforms, cases).
2. Familiarity with proper and safe use of standard shop equipment, including (but not limited to) sliding table saw, band saw, drill press, planer, router, radial arm saw, joiner/shaper.
3. Demonstrated experience in project management.
4. Experience with computer data entry.
5. Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment, performing rotating tasks.
6. Preferred: previous art handling experience.
