The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago seeks a full-time Associate Registrar for Exhibitions to execute all responsibilities with professionalism and transparency. S/he will use professional judgment and expertise when working on all exhibitions received and organized by MCA, use the highest standard of care, maintenance and best practice for the borrowed works of art and MCA works or art installed in exhibitions; also for courier responsibilities, handling, condition reporting and recording of all such art works. S/he will also be responsible for drafting and maintaining budgets.
Bachelor’s degree in art or art history required. Four years working as a museum registrar for exhibitions or in similar position required. Courier work, insurance and indemnity administration experience, and familiarity with TSA security procedures and threat assessment required. Comprehensive budgeting experience, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work cross-institutionally, and facility with Microsoft office suite and collection database required. Familiarity with TMS database, foreign language and travel preferred. Must be able to work long hours in galleries and storage areas with works of art. Examination of art works frequently demands stooping, knelling, and bending with occasional lifting and moving of art works as required. Close examination of art works requires good vision. Ability to participate in transportation of works of art and to withstand various temperatures during outdoor loading and unloading of works of art and the ability to stand for long periods of time required.
Schedule is full-time Monday through Friday with extended hours during installations as needed. May be called upon to work as courier involving extended hours supervising cargo and customs activities as they relate to assigned art work(s).
