Job DescriptionThe Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has an exciting opportunity for a highly detailed and organized individual to lead the institution in the implementation of its new Collections Management System, The Museum System (TMS). The TMS Project Manager will be the liaison between the TMS vendor and museum staff; formulate implementation plans and schedules; oversee the data conversion process ; develop data entry and system documentation policies, procedures and standards; schedule and participate in system training; plan, oversee and participate in data enhancement projects; and monitor vendor performance. The TMS Project manager will supervise project staff, and at the same time be a hands-on member of the TMS team, taking part in every aspect of the implementation and long-term growth of TMS at VMFA.

Job RequirementsThe successful candidate will have graduated from an accredited college or university with major coursework in art history, museum studies or a related field. He/she will have experience in some area of Collections Management in an art museum and will demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the processes and procedures involved in a range of collections management activities, including cataloguing, accessioning, exhibitions, location moves, etc. Experience managing a collections management system or museum-specific software program is required. Experience with TMS or Knowledge of SQL software is a plus. Additionally, he/she will have superior analytical, project management, communication and interpersonal skills. Some supervisory or leadership experience is helpful. The selected candidate must pass a criminal background check.
