Job DescriptionThis is a professional position, which is responsible for record-keeping, housing, and movement of objects in the collections of the museum. Responsibility includes the maintenance of the permanent record of history, status, condition and location of the artifacts comprising the museum’s collections.
This is a part-time position working approximately 18 hrs. per week. Evening and/or weekend work schedules would be expected when supporting the museum’s public programs and for monthly weekend staffing rotation.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required, prefer degree in humanities-related discipline. Masters Degree in Museum Studies or related field, preferred.
• Minimum of two years of registrar experience working with non-archival museum collections required including: working with the public, dealing with donors, handling insurance, tracking inventory, cataloging, numbering objects, and processing loans.
• Experience working with a museum collection database system (Vernon Collection Management System, preferred).
• Knowledge of practices and standards related to collection management and museum registration.
• Ability to work with a variety of collection objects and materials.
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to utilize a scanner and digital SLR camera.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn Elmhurst history, Illinois history and American history.
• Possesses public relations, presentation, interpersonal, and written skills.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in the museum, the City, and the public.
• Ability to independently organize, develop, plan and produce projects.
• Must possess valid Illinois driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
