The Peabody Essex Museum is seeking a talented and skilled Exhibition Technician. Reporting to the Manager of Exhibition Design Projects, the successful candidate will work with a Design Coordinator to provide fabrication and installation services for ongoing and changing exhibition programs. As part of the implementation of the Exhibition Design Department work for changing exhibitions, gallery rotations, installation work, and other projects, this position will also require excellent organizational and communication skills to coordinate work with the Registration, Collection Management and Exhibition Planning teams.

The Exhibition Technician must be able to demonstrate knowledge of museum display techniques and a minimum of five years experience in casework fabrication (exhibition plinths, risers and casework preparation), general carpentry, installation of museum exhibitions, and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

The Exhibition Technician will also implement graphic installations (vinyl type, graphic panels, and custom fabrications) and work closely with the Manager of Exhibition Design Projects and Exhibition Design Coordinator in overseeing the work of subcontracted carpenters, painters and other skilled workers engaged in preparing exhibition galleries prior to object installation or during deconstruction.

Art museum or art handling experience is preferred. Computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with CAD (preference is VectorWorks) are desirable to assist in routine communication with vendors and other staff. Physical ability and strength to move objects of up to 75lbs for distances in excess of 100 feet, wear personal protective equipment, and operate wood/metal working equipment, power tools, motorized lifts are required.

A BA in Art or design related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
