Exhibition Designer
Working under the direction of the Head of Registration and Chief Curator, the Exhibition Designer is primarily responsible for the design of installations for temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection that will present works of art in a visually engaging and accessible manner, as well as support the institution’s interpretative goals.

In this role, you will….


Develop exhibition designs, production timelines, and budgets for permanent and temporary installations in collaboration with curators and other applicable staff.
Plan, organize and coordinate activities with the Design & Editorial department, Lighting Designer, Administrator of Curatorial Affairs, Registrar for Exhibitions and applicable Curatorial staff.
In collaboration with other staff, develop and maintain standards of presentation and accessibility for all installations and public spaces.
Work closely and maintain good communication with the Design & Editorial department, as well as installation staff, to ensure timely execution of exhibition and permanent collection projects.
Work with other staff in developing new modes of presentation as part of the MIA’s strategic plan.


Specific Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in design or studio arts. Master’s degree in fine arts or design preferred.
Minimum of five years of experience in museum exhibition design, particularly in two-dimensional and three-dimensional/spatial work.
Demonstrated knowledge of space planning, museum display standards, exhibition lighting, fabrication of exhibition furniture, the production of design drawings and construction documents, and ADA and all regulatory requirements.
Extensive knowledge of museum best practices.
Proficiency in AutoCAD (or equivalent software), with knowledge of TMS or similar collections management program.
Ability to work collaboratively with others as well as possess strong organizational skills with a good knowledge of computing and budgeting.
