JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for crafting casework (pedestals, platforms, and risers) and providing art installation support for the display of museum collections at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University. Prepares, installs, and disassembles exhibitions, and maintains the Museum's permanent displays. Works closely with the Exhibition Display Specialist and reports to the Director of Exhibition Design. Maintains the woodshop, including procurement of materials; oversees safety equipment, cleaning, and maintenance needs for equipment and dust collection system. Works with Museum leadership and outside contractors while installing and dismantling both permanent and traveling exhibitions. Insures wall repairs are meticulously fixed and addresses any issues in all display areas as required. Maintains lighting in all museum galleries, and works to ensure proper lighting levels are maintained on sensitive works of art. Assists with exhibit logistics, storage, and moving of bases, pedestal, temporary walls, and other exhibit support needs. Provides additional assistance to Couriers, Registrars, Conservation, Development and Security Departments as needed. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent. Five years of exhibition installation, case design, cabinetmaking / carpentry, or woodshop experience. A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record. Positions within this classification may require the ability to bend, stoop, twist and/or lift 40-50 lbs.
