The Los Angeles County Arts Commission is seeking a temporary project registrar. Open immediately.

REGISTRAR TEMPORARY POSITION POSTING

The Los Angeles County Civic Art Program seeks an individual with experience in museum registration, collections management, cataloguing, information systems and/or library science for a temporary contract Registrar.

Reporting to the Civic Art Collections Manager and working as a member of a team, the position will assist with the following for a 180 object collection of commissioned public artworks including sculpture, architecturally integrated art and portable works:

Essential Duties:

•Systematize data management.
•Digitize hard copy files for artworks in the Civic Art Collection.
•Evaluate and organize digital art object files.
•Assist in development and retroactive application of new accession number system.

Qualifications:
•Bachelor's Degree required in art history, museum studies, information studies, library science or related field.
•Minimum of 1 year of experience working directly with a collection inventory in a museum or library, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Experience with image and document scanning technology.
•Knowledge of and experience with basic museum cataloguing rules and standards.
•Technical knowledge relating to digital image creation and management.
•Experience with data entry and data management.
•Computer literacy in Word, Excel and Outlook, experience with Access preferred.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Ability to produce precise, detail-oriented work.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills and legible handwriting.
•Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Terms:
Time frame: Contract starts April 2014, runs through June 30. 40hrs/wk preferred.
Salary range: $30-40/hour, commensurate with experience.

About the Civic Art Policy:
In 2004, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopted the County's first Civic Art Policy which allocates one percent of design and construction costs on new County capital projects to a Civic Art Special Fund. The Los Angeles County Arts Commission’s Civic Art Program works with County departments to identify, inventory, maintain, illuminate and conserve the County’s art collection as well as create a comprehensive inventory of County-owned art. Los Angeles County covers more than 4,000 square miles, ranging from mountains to beaches, and encompasses 88 cities and 137 unincorporated areas.
