Greetings PACCIN,
I had the pleasure of joining fellow Publications Committee member and PACCIN/AIC liaison Ashley McGrew at the 2nd annual meeting of AIC-CCN's Materials Selection and Specification Working Group last Thursday and Friday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The ultimate realization of MWG's initiative to develop guidelines and best practices in selecting and evaluating materials used in collections care, and for disseminating reliable information in one collaborative network and Wiki, would serve a broad spectrum of the museum community. The quality and scope of information this would make readily available to everyone can hardly be overstated.
I sense a major evolution for PACCIN.org's small but popular materials glossary, and a great opportunity to share information with other communities not yet familiar with PACCIN's practical perspectives on materials applied to handling, storage, transportation and display.
Stay tuned for more information on the progress made at this meeting. In the meantime, here is an early introduction to the working group's mission.
