Penn Museum (aka University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology) is looking for 4 collections inventory techs for some upcoming projects.

The details: The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum) is seeking four Collections Inventory Technicians to assist in the comprehensive inventory of its Egyptian collections. Supervised by the Museum’s Registrar’s Office, the Technicians will be responsible for inventorying objects, object photography, and updating object locations and documentation in the Museum’s collections database. Additionally, the Technicians will be responsible for organizing and preparing select collections for off-site storage, as well as overseeing the packing, crating, and transportation to the off-site storage facility.

Qualifications Minimum: BA/BS coursework in a field related to the Museum’s collections required, with an BA/BS or MA/MS in such a field or in Museum Studies (Collections Management) preferred, 1-2 years of experience working in a museum setting required, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Broad knowledge of or passion for archaeological and ethnographic materials required. Team spirit and multi-tasking abilities required. Organizational skills and attention to detail required. Computer literacy required and experience with collections management databases (e.g. KE EMu) preferred. Manual dexterity and work on ladder required with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Prior experience in artifact handling, inventorying, photography, moving, packing, and crating highly preferred. Applicants should have an active driver’s license.
