SUMMARY:
The nation’s largest and most comprehensive service provider to museums, galleries, auction houses and private collectors has two immediate openings for a customer/detailed oriented Crate Shop Technician. The essential functions of this position are to work in the crate shop and be a part of the production team that specializes in the production of crates for fine arts.
Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Operates power tools, pneumatic staplers, nailers, table and radial saws, and band saws to manufacture individually designed crates for the shipping of art;
  • Constructs crates according to design specifications;
  • Operates a sprayer for water based materials including adhesive, latex paint, and lacquer;
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.


The ideal candidate will possess the following as minimum qualifications:


  • A minimum of three (3) years of college level studio arts training in sculpture or two (2) years of previous crate shop and/or crate packing experience required; extensive experience in-lieu of minimum education may be considered;
  • Excellent attention to detail, an understanding of archival materials, museum specifications for the crating and packing of museum objects, as well as knowledge of how to economically pack artwork
  • Three-dimensional packing experience is desired;
  • Knowledge of general shop safety and power tools (i.e. table saw, radial arm saw, staplers etc.) and their recommended safety requirements.
