THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Vice-President of Operations, the National Fleet Manager will be responsible for the management of the company’s transportation operations, across all offices, but with particular emphasis on the headquarters of the company in Landover, MD. Works with the General Managers and Operations Managers of each office to ensure the company is operating as safely, efficiently, and profitably as possible while delivering top of the line service to all of our clients. Primary duties are to ensure companies trucks, trailers and equipment are well maintained and comply with all DOT and OSHA regulations. Acts in an advisory capacity to all employees on matters of regulatory compliance and general transportation issues. Conducts regular training to make sure that all employees are able to manage the equipment, and comply with all regulations, and company policies. In addition, works closely with all offices to establish consistent protocol, and acts as liaison to dispatchers, operation managers and GM’s to insure that policies are being properly communicated.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Serves as an advisor to all employees on matters of regulatory compliance and general transportation issues;
· Creates and implements transportation policies for the organization including operations and security;
· Assists in the recruiting and hiring of new Art Handler/Drivers;
· Conducts road tests for new drivers
· Arranges for and maintains a network of reliable repair facilities;
· Oversees the companies’ driver safety program which includes but is not limited to accident prevention, Driver’s Daily Logs, Defensive Driving Courses, OSHA compliance, federal & state filings;
· Visits each office on a regular basis and works with department managers to insure safety compliance and provide training;
· Investigates accidents involving company trucks, questions witnesses and drivers to determine cause and to ensure that all government regulatory matters are addressed;
· Plans and implements policies on transportation security issues;
· Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience and competencies and attributes as minimum qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree in Management, Logistics or related discipline
· Five to seven years of experience in Fleet Management of trucks

COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory compliance in the transportation/logistics industry to include recruiting, training and development and applicable legislation;
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills;
  • Extremely detailed-oriented, works well under pressure;
  • Works well with others;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE (strongly preferred):


  • Managed a fleet of 10 or more trucks and working knowledge/experience in DOT/IFTA filings;
  • General working knowledge of federal and state regulations and the safe operation of vehicles;
  • Familiarity with Penske and Ryder leases and systems


COMPENSATION: The compensation package will be commensurate with education and experience.
