Assistant Registrar


Grounds For Sculpture is seeking a full-time Assistant Registrar to join its curatorial team. The Assistant Registrar reports directly to the Director of Exhibitions & Collections and is primarily responsible to provide clerical support and ongoing documentation of the collection.

This positions typically works Monday thru Friday, 9am-5pm but will also require availability on Saturdays, particularly during the peak season May - October.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Update written and electronic records for the collection, including documenting updates on movement of works, condition, cleaning, copyright, etc.
* Assist with the ongoing research for the collection, including verifying accuracy of electronic records in Mimsy database.
* Correspond with exhibition and collection lenders and draft new/updated loan agreements as required.
* Act as department point person for internal credit line/rights and reproduction requests.
* Assist the Curatorial department with the implementation of the changing exhibitions as directed.
* Assist with the preparation of paperwork related to collections committee reviews and new acquisitions.
* Assist the Chief Curator with internal and external correspondence with pending projects and organization of artist proposals.
* Prepare incoming and outgoing condition reports.
* Conduct weekly inspections of the indoor galleries and outdoor collections.
* Scan archival material and create archival records in Mimsy.
* Attend weekly meetings with Curatorial department team. Attend monthly full staff meetings.
* Assist in the scheduling of collections care volunteers.
* Assist in the annual inventory of the collection.
* Interact with staff, visitors, artists, and exhibition partners in a positive manner.
* All other duties as assigned.

Requirements


* Bachelor's degree in related field such as fine arts, art history, museum studies or similar field
* 1-2 years of experience in related position or nonprofit experience preferred
* Experience with collections database software or another relational database software preferred
* Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of programs
