Qualified applicants must be willing to be flexible in work scheduling; weekend availability and ability to vary workload during periods of high activity.

As an Exhibit Technician, this is what you'll do:
Clean and maintain museum galleries, prepares objects for display, troubleshoots and repairs exhibit installations, interactives, and lighting, and participates in the development and installation of new exhibitions and exhibit elements. This position works with one full-time Exhibit Technician and a staff of conservators, curators and archivists to fulfill all exhibit- and collections-related activities in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly collaborative work environment, reporting to the Curatorial and Exhibits Lead.
Inspect, clean, and maintain museum galleries, departmental facilities and equipment; exhibit cleaning and maintenance performed according to an established schedule of tasks performed daily, weekly, and monthly prior to museum opening.
Adjust and repair of exhibit installations as needed, including artifact mounting, casework, graphics/text panels, exhibit and gallery lighting, multimedia displays, and mechanical and computer-based interactives.
Handle artifacts related to installation and de-installation, including: receiving, packing and unpacking, handling, displaying, and shipping collection objects at the direction Curatorial and Exhibits Lead.
Coordinate productive relationships with suppliers and contractors. Procure and maintain tools, materials and supplies required to perform assigned duties.
Maintain inventory of fabrication and installation supplies, exhibition furniture and equipment; identify, locate, and purchase special installation supplies as needed.
Be responsible for knowledge of and adherence to safe workplace practices and procedures in all operations.
Work with Curatorial/Exhibits team to develop exhibit solutions, including casework preparation and construction, exhibit label, graphics, and vinyl installation and maintenance.
Prepare objects for display, including designing and fabricating object mounts as well as matting and framing 2-dimensional works.
Create and mount exhibit graphics.

Education Required
Degree not required.

Experience Required

We are looking for someone who:
Typically has a minimum of 2 years' experience in some combination of artifact or fine art handling and mounting, fabrication/light construction, exhibit installation and maintenance, graphic production in a museum or gallery setting, or related experience.
Has a background in Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Carpentry, Craft, or other related experience that requires sensitivity to materials, and aesthetic sensibilities is desired.
Has excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform concurrent multiple tasks in a busy environment.
Has strong time management and organizational skills.
Is able to work independently and assume direct responsibility for complex tasks.
Has strong attention to accuracy and detail.
Has knowledge of proper artifact handling, installation, packing and crating methods, maintenance, rigging and care of 2-D and 3-D artifacts of various media.
Is able to read and interpret electrical schematics, exhibit design documents, fabrication documents, and architectural drawings with working proficiency.
Is proficient with tools and equipment associated with basic carpentry, woodworking techniques, electrical work, light construction, and audio-visual and computer displays.
Has general knowledge of museum lighting techniques, lighting instruments, and control systems.
Has general knowledge of current conservation practices and archival materials.
Must be able to lift 70 lbs, work on a ladder and operate power equipment.
