Museum Collections Specialist
Temporary, Full-Time – approximately 12 month assignment


The Buffalo Bill Center of the West (BBCW) seeksdetail-oriented and highly organized individuals to assist with the safehandling, movement, and storage of object collections as part of the BBCWCollections Storage Project. This temporary, full-time position offers aunique opportunity to work hands-on with museum artifacts, ensuring theirlong-term preservation and accessibility.


This role may be filled as either a direct-hireemployee or a contractor, based on the needs of the project and theselected candidate's experience. As a Museum Collections Specialist,responsibilities include identifying, tracking, and relocating museumcollection objects to new storage areas. Key duties include assessing objectneeds, designing and fabricating custom storage mounts, and maintainingmeticulous records in the museum’s collections database. Position may alsooversee interns, contractors, and volunteers, guiding handling anddocumentation procedures.


This position requires a strong understanding of museumcollections care, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to workcollaboratively in a team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will haveexperience handling fragile and historically significant objects, as well asfamiliarity with museum databases and best practices in collections management.
