If you find it here...
... then you know it has merit. There is a huge volume of information to be found on the internet especially in the form of videos. It doesn't take a genius though to see that much of it is absolute garbage. When it comes to the work we do, narcissistic individuals or self-serving companies may self-promote without any consequences to themselves, but not so for future generations of visitors denied the opportunity to view the works that didn't survive a few individuals lacking in professionalism and ethically challenged. Simply put, bad information - widely dispersed on the internet - represents a very real danger to our cultural heritage. Some organizations post all kinds of content on their websites. Responsible professionals realize that just because you can stumble across something on the internet does not mean you should apply its content to the cultural material in your care. A well established truth - the most dangerous people in the museum are those who don't know what they don't know.
Our promise is that if you find it on this site it has merit. If there are qualifications that should be considered in its use or application then we will do our best to disclose them on this site. As well, we invite other members of the community to contribute their own insights in the comments section. Please enjoy what you find here and share your own "finds" by messaging ashley@pacin.org.
The internet supplies a wide variety of content, constantly growing, some of which is of great value and much of which is either of limited value or even downright dangerous. Please help us to provide a venue where all of the content shown has merit. PACCIN's publications committee will do its best to provide context about the information shown on the site that goes beyond just a series of links. If you want to be a part of the effort please contact me at the address below.
